Celebrating Thanksgiving involves gathering with family and friends, and enjoying the sense of thankfulness for all of the good things in our lives. The sentiment of gratitude reaches all the way back to the gathering of unlikely friends that took place in 1621; when settlers at Plymouth shared a three-day feast with the local Wampanoag Indians. Our traditional Thanksgiving turkey was probably not on the dinner menu. Although familiar items such as cranberries and pumpkins were on the table, they were most likely roasted, not made into sauces and pies!
It was not until 1863 that Thanksgiving, already celebrated throughout the country, was established as a national holiday by President Abraham Lincoln.
