Veterans Day is an official holiday in the United States designated to honor, thank and remember all those who have served in the military. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th “Armistice Day” in 1919, saying: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

Not until 1954 did Congress officially change the name of “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day”. It has been known as Veterans Day ever since- a day to remember all those who served in the armed forces.
