In the 1960’s, Joseph Goodwin bought his wife a transistor radio, and told her he did so “just because”. The simple gesture inspired a family tradition that endured for decades, and began to spread throughout his California community. 50 years later, National Just Because Day still credits its beginning to that humble gift. Goodwin was once quoted as saying that he wanted the day to celebrate life, family and leisure time. With that spirit in mind, August 27 is the perfect opportunity for you to offer a gift, make a gesture, or try something new. It doesn’t matter how you recognize the day, just make sure there is no real reason, other than “why not?”.

* Bake cookies and bring them to an elderly neighbor’s house, then sit and share stories and coffee.

* Go to the playground and play on the swings. After all, today is a day to enjoy life!
