Nanz and Kraft Florists asked one of our resident flower experts and moms to weigh in on kids, flowers and what to give the special moms in your life for Mother's Day.
Name: Debbie Frisbie
Kids: Ellen, 28, Matthew, 25, Claire, 20, and John, 17
How did you get into floral work? I have always loved fresh flowers and usually have a bouquet somewhere in the house. I wanted to do something part-time with flexible hours. Nanz and Kraft was looking for seasonal help during the Christmas holiday, and I jumped at the chance to work with them. I have loved working with the flowers from day one and have found that it is not a job but a joy to be able to be creative and make beautiful arrangements every day. On March 8, we'll join over 100 countries across the world in honoring the achievements and efforts of women on International Women's Day. And while we may not have a floral giving tradition for this important day, we here at Nanz & Kraft Florists think we should. In Italy, they exchange yellow mimosa flowers, for instance. And while that would be beautiful, we don't think our gifts should be limited to one flower; after all, what better way to emphasize the collective power of thousands of unique individual women than to offer them the whole range of flowers? If we asked you to name a flower that completely embodies the essence of springtime, chances are the daisy would come to mind. But although you may imagine the iconic gold and white variety, this deceivingly simple looking flower comes in over 4,000 species, and grows naturally on every continent of the globe except Antarctica. Daisies come in the full spectrum of color and represent almost 10% of the flowering plants in the world. No matter what your special occasion or event, the daisy is a classic choice - and Nanz & Kraft Florists are the best floral experts to call for the freshest, most exquisite cut daisies in Louisville.
What's in a Name? The name daisy is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word "daes eage" which means "day's eye", so named because the flower opens its petals when the sun rises and closes them at sunset. Read More about Celebrating with April Daisies
By the time that spring officially arrives, the weather in Louisville has begun to warm up, the days are getting longer, and the colors have begun to return to the landscape. The crocus and daffodil, both considered the first harbingers of the season, have shown their face in many places. And at Nanz & Kraft Florist, our floral designers are ready to create amazing seasonal bouquets to celebrate the arrival of spring. Spring flowers are here, and they are beautiful!
The hallmark of arrangements created from springtime flowers is the vivid color and variety. Designers use a lot of green to represent the renewal and rebirth, and vibrant purple, orange, pink, and blue add the excitement to the design. Read More about Bring on the Springtime Flowers

National Floral Design Day is an annual celebration of the beauty of flowers and the talented people who work with them every day. Although largely recognized within the floral community, we thought we would take this opportunity to introduce you to one of our favorite designers, Kaitlin. If you have received a bouquet or floral arrangement from Nanz and Kraft Florists over the last couple of years, chances are excellent that Kate had something to do with it.
Kate has worked at Nanz & Kraft Florists for two years. She moved to our team at the urging of her floral design mentor, who loved the environment here so much that she encouraged Kate to join her. "It turned out to be a great opportunity for me, and I've grown so much as a designer here", she says. Read More about Floral Design Day – Meet Kaitlin
