10 Ways to Be Romantic at Home this Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air! It could not be arriving at a better time! Forget those naysayers who claim greeting card companies made up Valentine’s Day just for profit (not true – see how Valentine’s Day started), who cares?! A day where we celebrate love, and not just romantic love, but love for all the special persons in our life is a welcome holiday in our book! Here at Nanz and Kraft Florist, the best flower shop in Louisville, we are fans of any holiday celebrating love. We put together a list of our favorite stay-at-home activities for a romantic and fun Valentine’s Day.

How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Home

Watch a Romantic Movie

Ignore the bad rap this phrase has around it – when done correctly, watching a movie with your sweetheart can be a romantic and intimate experience. Make it special, though! Elevate the evening with fresh flowers, gourmet snacks, expensive wine or champagne, and candles. Watch a romantic movie or re-watch a favorite movie you both enjoy.

Game Night!

There is nothing like a little competition to get the endorphins going. Grab a scrabble game, a chessboard, or trivial pursuit, and pair with some excellent wine, cozy PJs, and scented candles. Soon you will have a game night to remember.

Set the Mood

Make Valentine’s Day stand out from other days by setting the mood with lots of fresh flowers, scented candles, romantic music, and elegant dinnerware.

Couple Sitting Around a Fire outside in cold weather

Get Cozy by the Fire

Since Valentine’s day is still pretty cold in some areas, bundling up beside warm fire is a romantic way to spend time with your partner or family outdoors. Play games, cook smores, gaze at the stars in the sky or bask in the glow of a warm fire with all of your loved ones around you. It’s a glorious experience.

Create a Bucket List Together

Get excited about a future trip by planning it with your significant other or your whole family. Choose places you want to visit, sites to see, hotels to stay at, and fun activities to do. Going through TripAdvisor and reviewing attractions, sites, hotels, and restaurants is a fun way to spend the evening.

Handmade Valentine's Day card with two pink birds

Get Crafty

Instead of rushing last-minute to the crowded greeting cards aisle to purchase a mass-produced card, make one instead! A do-it-yourself card is a fun Valentine’s Day activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Get some scissors, markers, colored paper, and glue, and paper let the creativity begin. Afterward, you’ll end up with original, personal, keepsake memories made from the heart.

Spread the Love

Send Flowers to Someone

Know someone who may be feeling low on Valentine’s Day, or someone who could use a pick-me-up? Then send flowers! There is no better way to let someone know that they are in your thoughts and you care for them than saying it with flowers.

Pay It Forward

Spread the love of Valentine’s Day by performing random acts of kindness. Pick up the tab for another person’s coffee, leave a basket of cookies or flowers on your neighbor’s porch, or pass out a single flower to random people who pass by you.  Small acts of kindness like these can really make a big difference in someone’s life.

Love Yourself

If you are going to be alone on Valentine’s Day, show yourself some love. Indulge in your favorite meal, buy yourself some flowers, read a good book, or give yourself a spa treatment. A day that celebrates love includes showing love to yourself as well as others.

It is pretty easy to get bogged down in the routine of everyday life where there’s no time for grand gestures of love, which is why a holiday like Valentine’s Day is needed. It forces us to take a moment and do something important to show the people in our lives how much we love them. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
