Know Your Holidays in 2014, Be a Gift Giving Master!

With so many holidays on the calendar, it can be hard to keep track of them all. If you forget the date or get the wrong gift, you may risk offending someone important in your life. Save these dates now, and don’t forget to get the right flowers.

  • Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, and it will be a very long weekend if you forget to pick up flowers on the way home. For a spouse or significant other, red roses are the standard. For a date, either a single rose or another color can help avoid the perception of moving too fast. For family members, mixed bouquets are appropriate.
  • Easter Sunday, April 20th. Easter is one of the biggest family gatherings. and flowers are an excellent gift to bring the host of the family dinner. Light colored lilies, tulips, and daisies are the most popular choices.
  • Administrative Professionals & Secretaries’ Day, April 23rd. The worst thing you can do is forget one of your hardest workers on the day set aside just for them. Especially in a large office, secretaries gossip about gifts and compare the flowers placed on each others’ desks. Tasteful planters that they can use to decorate their space year round are always appropriate. For a bouquet, go with a mixed variety of flowers. Avoid flowers such as red roses that have romantic connotations.
  • Mother’s Day, May 11th. For Mother’s Day, red or pink roses or tulips are a perfect symbol of a different kind of love. Pastel colored flowers that match the spring season can make a great alternative gift.
  • Father’s Day, June 15th. Father’s Day is a less traditional flower giving holiday, but the right kind can show your appreciation for your father. Go for decorative green plants that he can place in a windowsill or on an office desk. Sunflowers can also be an appropriate accent to other gifts such as fruit baskets.
  • Bosses’ Day, October 16th. Bosses’ Day is less widely followed, but you don’t want to be the only one not giving a gift. Mixed color bouquets or yellow or orange flowers are appropriate. Avoid red roses and similar flowers.
